Cambodian Adventure: The Journey Home

Petronas Towers, Kuala Lumpur

After leaving Cambodia, the tour finished up in Bangkok, Thailand. After a night there it was onto Kuala Lumpur for a stopover night due to the original flight being cancelled. Hadn't been before so I coughed up nearly $100 for a taxi just to get into the city for some food and pics.

Cambodian Adventure: Day 2 – Ho Chi Minh City

Rice boat
Today was all about the Mekong River. After a couple of hours long bus ride from the city along what the locals call the Hiphop Highway (there is lots of bumps!), our tour arrive at the river. The day was spent on boats exploring the river system and seeing how the people here spend they’re entire lives on the water.
It was also a day of trying out lots of the local “delicacies”. Rice wine that had been fermented with dead birds, snakes, scorpions and spiders was definitely the highlight. Surprisingly didn’t get sick after trying that!

Cambodian Adventure: Day 1 – Ho Chi Minh City

So on Friday the 22nd of April, I set off on the first big overseas adventure of 2011. After a an uneventful but tiring flight via Kula Lumpur, the first port of call was Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
With half a day to kill before meeting up with my tour group, I headed out into the city and attempted to not get lost..

Preparing for a Cambodian Adventure

Most west-australians these days think of Bali when planning an overseas holiday, not me! 2011's first adventure is going to be all about Cambodia (with a little bit of Thailand & Vietnam too!). I've had plenty of confused looks and questions about why would I want to go there especially when I tell them that I'm going by myself. And to that I say, Why not? Where else can you eat deep fried tarantulas? :D

So my itinerary goes something like this: Fly out from Perth about 1:30am (ouch) Easter Friday. Randomly found out that my boss is leaving to go to Vietnam at the same time just with a different airline, it'll be a race to Saigon :) Get into KL in time for breakfast then not long after catch another flight across to Vietnam arriving before lunch. I'll be travelling around Saigon for a day & a half. Then it's off to Cambodia for the next 6 days, exploring temples like Indiana Jones and eating lots of weird food! After that I have almost a whole day of travelling just to get across the border and into Bangkok. Will be spending just one day/night there partying it up before having to fly back home :( The first Monday back at work after that is going to be tough!!

Only have 2 months to go now and am getting excited/nervous. Haven't got much left to organise, really just need to get a new camera. It should be quite an interesting adventure!
